TACLOBAN CITY – The governors of Eastern Samar and Northern Samar have joined the political party of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Governors Edwin Ongchuan of Northern Samar and Ben Evardone of Eastern Samar formally took their oaths as new members of the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas(PFP) during a ceremony last May 1.
Both Ongchuan and Evardone supported Mr.Marcos’ closest political rival, then vice president Leni Robredo, during the 2022 presidential elections.
Northern Samar Vice Gov.Clarence Dato also joined the PFP.
Ongchuan was a Liberal Party stalwart while Evardone was a member of the then ruling political party,PDP-Laban.
Joining the PFP is his answer to the call of President Marcos to solidify alliance while maintaining his advocacy for national unity,Ongchuan said.
“Our advocacy is for the development, sa ikabubuti ng ating bansa, ng ating ekonomiya, at sa pagbabantay sa araw-araw na buhay ng bawat Pilipino. Let us work together and let us continue to keep in mind in mind that the best way to serve our people is to come together and to work as one,” President Marcos said in his message.
The President also urged new party members to uphold the party’s ideology, focusing on empowering local government units as decision-makers.
He added that the PFP also welcomes not only individual members but also potential coalition’s partnerships.
Among the new recruits of the PFP is , Leyte Rep. Richard Gomez(4th district) and his wife Ormoc City Mayor Lucy Torres-Gomez .
The country is slated to hold an elections next year with Ongchuan,Evardone and the Gomez couple expected to run.
