TACLOBAN CITY – A former member of the New People’s Army (NPA) identified by her alias “Marikit,” voluntarily surrendered to authorities under the 2nd Leyte Provincial Mobile Force Company (2nd LPMFC).

The 34-year-old from Jaro, Leyte surrendered on December 26, on the 56th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP).

She turned over a .38 caliber revolver and ammunition to 2nd LPMFC personnel assigned in Brgy. Cristina, Calubian,Leyte marking a significant step in her decision to leave the insurgency behind.

PLtCol Marino Azur Estonio, head of the 2nd LPMFC, expressed hope that “Marikit’s” decision would inspire others still involved in insurgent activities to follow suit, reiterating government readiness to assist any rebel who wishes to return to their families and reintegrate into society peacefully.

He also emphasized the government’s commitment to helping former rebels transition to civilian life through the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) – a government program that offers financial aid, livelihood opportunities, and psychological support, aimed at reintegrating former combatants back into their communities.
Following her surrender, “Marikit” will undergo documentation and assessment for her potential enrollment in the E-CLIP program. Authorities have reiterated their readiness to assist any insurgents wishing to return to their families and reintegrate into society peacefully.

Prior to “Marikit” surrender in Calubian, a rebel in Samar province surrendered to the 802nd Maneuver Company, Regional Mobile Force Battalion 8, as they strengthens campaign against insurgency and terrorism in the region.

Identified as ““Pandoy,” a 68-year-old male farmer from Pinabacdao, Samar, he surrender to the personnel of the 802nd Maneuver Company in Barangay Canticum, Calbiga, Samar.
“Pandoy” was an active member of the Squad 2 Municipal Guerilla Platoon under SRC-SESAME of the Eastern Visayas Regional Party Committee (EVRPC) when leaved the armed struggle after realizing that the revolutionary were being manipulated by its leaders for personal gain, particularly in extorting money from large companies.

“I commend my personnel for their excellent work in convincing a communist member to surrender. This is a significant step in our fight against insurgency. Their dedication to peace, stability, and unity is helping foster a safer environment for all,” PMaj Diaz said.
Pandoy’s decision to leave the armed struggle was driven by his growing realization that the revolutionary ideals espoused by the CTG were being manipulated by its leaders for personal gain, particularly in extorting money from large companies.

As part of the government’s commitment to supporting former rebels, he will undergo the necessary documentation to avail of the E-CLIP benefits.
