TACLOBAN CITY—A centenarian from the upstream village of Pinanag-an in Borongan City received a cash gift as part of local and national initiatives honoring Filipino centenarians.

Lolita Rapales, known as ‘Apoy Loling’, expressed gratitude for the assistance provided by the city.

“Kadak-an utan ngan isda an akon kinakaon asya siguro nga inedad ak hin sugad,” she shared, attributing her longevity to a diet rich in vegetables and fish.

Rapales received P50,000 under Ordinance No. 129, Series of 2017, which grants additional benefits to Borongan’s centenarians.

The cash gift was handed over on December 4 by city officials led by administrator Celestino Cabato.

Rapales is also set to receive P100,000 from the national government under Republic Act No. 10868, along with a personalized greeting from the President. The provincial government is expected to provide additional assistance.

Other elderly residents of the barangay received food packs and canes to aid with mobility and daily tasks.
