TACLOBAN CITY – A groundbreaking ceremony was held in Alangalang, Leyte on September 14, 2024, marking the start of construction for the first-ever Bagong Pilipinas Serbisyo Center, a centralized hub designed to provide citizens with easy access to a wide range of government services and information.
The ceremony was led by Tingog party-list Rep. Jude Acidre, Regional Director Edgar Tabacon of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), and Mayor Lovell Ann Yu-Castro, among others.
“This will be the first-ever Bagong Pilipinas Serbisyo Center in the entire country. I am certain that from here, people will not only look up to the building, but also to the services we will be offering in the center. It will surely provide a significant boost to the economy,” Acidre remarked in his speech.
The Bagong Pilipinas Serbisyo Center aims to bring the government closer to the public by providing a one-stop shop for government programs, projects, and services.
It will streamline processes, reduce bureaucracy, and improve the efficiency of service delivery. Services offered will include applications for permits, licenses, social services, and other government-related transactions—all in one convenient location.
The two-storey structure will have an estimated ground floor area of 3,250 square meters and a second-floor area of 2,300 square meters.
The facility will include various rooms and amenities such as agency offices, an information desk, electrical room, security and control room, public restrooms, a parking area, utility room, lounge, storage, photocopy and printing section, and more.
The DPWH regional office will utilize a P250-million budget for the construction of the center this year.
During his speech, Tabacon expressed his gratitude to the local and national officials present for their support of the numerous DPWH projects in Eastern Visayas.
“We hope that we can all work together to uplift the development of Region 8. It is time for Eastern Visayas to be at par with other regions in terms of development, through these projects,” he added.
