TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Tourism (DOT) in the region successfully hosted the first Leyte Landings Historical Quest on Sunday, October 27.

The competition featured six teams from Tacloban City competing in an adventure race style, with winners determined by their total points.

The event highlighted 10 historically significant areas related to World War II in the towns of Palo and Tolosa, as well as in Tacloban City.

Among the sites visited by participants were the Scout Abello Monument in Brgy. Telegrafo, Hill 522 (Guinhangdan Hill) in Palo, Leyte National High School, Price Mansion, (old)Leyte Provincial Capitol Building, Redoña Residence, and the Madonna of Japan, all in Tacloban City.

Tribu Harbat emerged victorious, besting five other teams to win an overnight stay in Canigao Island and a Baybay City tour.

Team Dirt claimed second place, earning an overnight package tour to Kalanggaman Island, while Team General McArthur secured third place, winning the Olot Torpedo Boat Tour and a special award that included dinner at Calle Z.

Consolation prizes were awarded to Old School, which won a Tacloban City tour and lunch at Ocho Seafoods Grill; Team Asol, which received the Sohoton Cave Tour; and Team A, which won dinner for five at Hotel XYZ.

The Leyte Landings Historical Quest was organized in partnership with the provincial government of Leyte, the city government of Tacloban, and the municipal governments of Palo and Tolosa.

The event was supported by various sponsors that provided prizes, including IM Travel Corporation, Derick’s Travel and Tours, Skyride Travel and Tours, Viaje Holidays, Travelink Travel and Tours, Hotel XYZ, and Calle Z Café.

This historical quest was part of the events organized by the DOT-8 in relation to the 80th commemoration of the Leyte Gulf Landings.
