NSSDEO, Brgy. Burabud, Laoang, Northern Samar – In an effort to safeguard the coastal denizens against potential sea-level surge, the Department of Public Works and Highways Northern Samar Second District Engineering Office (DPWH-NSSDEO) has reached its 100 percent completion of the Construction of Flood Mitigation Structure of Brgy. Rawis in Laoang, Northern Samar, on October 7, 2024.
The Construction of Flood Mitigation Structure in Brgy. Rawis, Laoang, Northern Samar, entails a comprehensive scope of works, including the construction of 117.00 meters reinforced concrete revetment on steel sheet pile foundation; concreting of 117.00 meters roadway PCCP; construction of 117.00 meters sidewalk with curb and gutter; construction of 2 units RCBC with wingwall and apron at Sta. 0+100.00 and Sta. 0+180.75, with a contract amount of Php 29,300,446.86, funded under General Appropriations Act (GAA) of 2024.
Furthermore, the structure was built horizontal to the shoreline to withstand the waves that can cause gradual erosion of the soil that prevent damage to the nearby properties. It plays a pivotal role in enhancing the community’s resilience to climate change impacts.
This project emphasizes the unwavering commitment of DPWH to protect coastal communities against natural disasters, as it provides a barrier against storm surge flooding and contributes to the overall adaptation and mitigation efforts.
Through fortified defenses of building vital project, inhabitants and properties are protected and secured. This project was completed ahead of its completion schedule. This also contributes to the aesthetic enhancement of the coastlines, which can create an inviting environment for the locals. (PR)
