CARIGARA, Leyte – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Leyte Second District Engineering Office intensifies its prevention against the pandemic novel coronavirus 2019 disease (COVID-19).
The department issued Memorandum Circular No. 14 or the “Reiteration of the Interim Guidelines on 2019 Novel Coronavirus Acute Respiratory Disease (2019-NCOV ARD) Response in the Workplace” providing guidance to all employers and workers, both public and private, to take the necessary steps to prevent, contain, and mitigate the possible transmission of the disease in the communities.
In adherence to the memorandum, the district office conducted disinfection in all office premises for prevention and protection of employees and stakeholders from the disease.
“This is one step to avoid the spread of respiratory viruses as human coronavirus can remain infectious on surfaces for a matter of days,” said District Engineer Gerald Pacanan.
Aside from the social distancing measures, employees’ temperatures were constantly checked and advised to disinfect before entering the office premises. Hourly disinfection of tables, chairs, telephones, computer keyboards, doorknobs and provision of footbath in every entrance door were conducted as part the general preventive measures.
Alternative work arrangement in compressed work week is implemented in adherence to Civil Service Commission Announcement No. 12 Series of 2020 to ensure non-disruption in the delivery of public service with due observance of social distancing policy to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and other preventive health measures.
Pacanan also advised the employees to be vigilant and cooperate with the government’s campaign to combat the spread of COVID-19. (LIZBETH ANN A. ABELLA) xxx
