TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Leyte 2nd District Engineering Office (L2DEO) has completed the construction of a multi-purpose building that will serve as the Municipal Fire Station of Burauen, Leyte.

The new facility aims to provide better amenities and a more comfortable working environment for the town’s firefighters.

District Engineer Leo Edward Oppura reported that the project is a three-story structure with a total floor area of 500 square meters.

The building includes essential features such as a fire truck parking bay, office spaces for administrative work, living quarters for on-duty personnel, and a closed-circuit television system for security.

Additionally, the roof deck is equipped with a rappelling station designed to improve the physical fitness and endurance of the firefighters.

Oppura emphasized the importance of the project in promoting safety and security for the residents of Burauen and nearby areas.

He noted that the new facility will significantly enhance the fire department’s ability to respond quickly to fire emergencies.

“A fire station is a critical component of any municipality, as it bolsters the community’s emergency response capabilities, helping to save lives and protect property. Beyond their firefighting duties, these stations also play a vital role in community outreach and education,” said Oppura.

The project was funded with P9.86 million under the DPWH CY 2024 Regular Infrastructure-General Appropriations Act – BIP for Multi-Purpose Buildings/Facilities to support Social Services.

The construction began on February 23, 2024, and was completed on August 20, 2024.
