ORMOC CITY– A construction worker died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital after being stabbed by his drinking companion early Thursday morning, November 7, in Sitio Camia, Barangay Guintiguian, this city.
The victim was identified by police as Reyson Canencia, a married construction worker. The suspect, Rodrigo Montenegro, 44, married and a farmer, is also a resident of the same barangay.
According to Police Station 2, they received a call around 7am from the Barangay Secretary of Guintiguian, reporting a stabbing incident. Responding officers found Canencia lying in a rice field with multiple stab wounds. Authorities confirmed that Montenegro fled the scene following the incident.
A witness, Hanelyn Soda, 50, a farmer and resident of the barangay, recounted to police that the victim and suspect were having a drinking session during a neighbor’s wake when a heated argument erupted between the two.
The dispute quickly escalated, leading Montenegro to stab Canencia. Despite attempting to flee, Canencia collapsed in the rice field, succumbing to his injuries.
