TACLOBAN CITY- Eastern Samar Governor Conrado Nicart Jr., died due to a lingering illness on April 16. He was 70 years old.
Nicart died at the Makati Medical Center where he was confined for over a year due to a debilitating ailment at about 1:15 pm.
He was elected as governor of Eastern Samar in 2010 and won for another term in 2016 but took an indefinite leave in 2017 due to his failing health.
Then Vice Governor Marcelo Ferdinand Picardal assumed the post as acting governor in September,2017.
He left behind his wife, Thelma, incumbent mayor of San Policarpo town and four children, one of them, Conrado Nicart III, is the incumbent vice mayor of the said town and is running for the lone congressional district of Eastern Samar.
The deceased governor himself was a long-time mayor of San Policarpo, 190 kms away from this city.
Provincial administrator George Erroba said that the provincial government has reached out to the family of the late governor so they could hold a service in his honor.
And in a statement, Gov. Picardal gave respect to his immediate predecessor saying that the legacy and sacrifices of the late governor as a public servant of their province will never be forgotten.
“The entire people of Eastern Samar, to include the Office of the Governor, pray for the eternal repose of his soul,” Picardal added.
The remains of the former governor was flown to Borongan City last Saturday (April 20) via a Philippine Air Force plane facilitated by former Foreign Affairs Sec. Alan Peter Cayetano.
His remains were brought to the provincial capitol building where for necrological services.
He will be brought to San Policarpo where he will be buried on May 1. (RONALD O.REYES)
