ORMOC CITY– A good Samaritan was injured while assisting local Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) personnel in extinguishing a fire that caused multi-million pesos in damage on November 17, at the Ormoc Heights Subdivision in Barangay San Isidro.
The victim, identified only as “Albert,” 31, a married resident of the barangay, was passing through the area when the fire broke out. Without hesitation, he volunteered to help maneuver fire hoses alongside firefighters.
According to the BFP, the blaze engulfed a house owned by a couple referred to by the alias “Lightning,” who are businesspeople residing in the upscale subdivision.
Initial investigations revealed that the fire originated in the bedroom of one of the couple’s children, although its exact cause remains under investigation.
While the house was primarily made of concrete, flammable materials inside accelerated the fire’s spread, causing significant damage.
The fire reached the first alarm level and required five fire trucks to bring it under control by 7:40 am It was declared fully extinguished at 7:52 am.
No fatalities were reported, but “Albert” sustained injuries while assisting the firefighters.
The fire caused an estimated P2.52 million in property damage.
