TACLOBAN CITY—Eastern Samar Governor Ben Evardone has expressed his strong support for Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos in his campaign against child abuse, human trafficking, and sexual exploitation.

Evardone voiced his support as Secretary Abalos appeared before the Senate on Tuesday (August 20) who defended the P10 million bounty offered for the capture of controversial pastor Apollo Quiboloy, who is facing charges of human trafficking and sexual abuse.

“I wholeheartedly support Secretary Benhur Abalos in his stand against child abuse, human trafficking, and sexual abuse,” Evardone said in a statement on Tuesday.

“There is no place in our society for these heinous crimes, which leave a deep and lasting impact on their victims. Our children and families deserve protection, and it is our duty to ensure that justice is served against those who commit these atrocities.”

Pastor Quiboloy of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ has been in hiding as he faces a string of cases of human trafficking, child abuse, and sexual exploitation.

Some private persons have put up a P10 million as part of an effort to arrest the fugitive religious leader.

The governor also called on the public to remain vigilant against individuals who exploit, abuse, and traffic vulnerable people, particularly children.

“I urge everyone to support Secretary Abalos in his fight against these evildoers,” Evardone continued.

“This is the defining fight of our times. Secretary Abalos’ stance is just the beginning of a broader effort to eradicate all forms of abuse. It reminds us that there is still much work to be done.”

Gov. Evardone expressed hope that with the government’s relentless campaign, supported by the public, the scourge of human trafficking and sexual abuse could finally be brought to an end. (JOEY A. GABIETA)
