TACLOBAN CITY – The holiday season has arrived early in Northern Samar province with the official opening of “Karibhungan sa Pasko 2023,” a festive celebration featuring enchanting “Storybook Garden” themed decorations on the provincial capitol grounds.
The grand switch-on ceremony was graced by Governor Edwin Ongchuan, Vice Governor Clarence Dato, and various provincial officials on the evening of Friday, October 27.
Speaking during the ceremony, Gov.Ongchuan emphasized the Philippines’ reputation for starting Christmas celebrations early.
“In the whole world, the Philippines is known for being one of the earliest to begin Christmas celebrations. In October, our fellow citizens can already visit and witness the various attractions in the storybook displayed at the capitol,” he said.
The governor also expressed his gratitude to the provincial government’s employees for their hard work in setting up the Christmas tree which is intended to bring joy and excitement to children and those young at heart.
He also reminded those present that Christmas is a time not only for celebration but also for expressing gratitude for the blessings received.
“The Christmas season is also a time for us to express our gratitude for the blessings we have received in the past year,” Ongchuan said.
This year’s Karibhungan sa Pasko 2023 features the participation of 15 government agencies and organizations, each tasked with creating a storybook-inspired Christmas decoration.
Winners of the storybook-inspired Christmas decorations will receive cash prizes: P300,000 for the 1st place, P200,000 for the 2nd place, and P100,000 for the 3rd place. Non-winners will receive a P50,000 consolation prize. Additionally, three surprise special awards will be presented to chosen participants.
Karibhungan sa Pasko 2023 will end on January 6, 2024. (ROEL T. AMAZONA)
