Beefing up security amidst Degamo killing
TACLOBAN CITY– The cold-blooded murder of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo was condemned by his fellow governors of Leyte and Eastern Samar provinces, admitting that they have beefed up their personal security.
Governor Carlos Jericho Petilla said that while Leyte remains to be peaceful, he has to make some security changes in the wake of the killing of Degamo.
“For me, we are beefing up our security as a natural reaction. There will be changes (to my security). Leyte is peaceful but you still need some precautions,” he said.
Petilla also said that the killing of Degamo, a governor who has had his own security personnel, is a cause of worry as he called on the police to step up their security measures.
Meantime, Eastern Samar Gov. Ben Evardone also expressed his condemnation of the murder of Degamo as he called authorities to solve the ‘heinous crime.’
“I join my fellow governors in condemning the brutal killing of my friend Gov Roel Degamo of Negros Oriental. You may rest in peace. And justice must be served on your and other victims of this heinous crime,” he said.
“To the family and the people of Negros Oriental, please accept our sincere sympathies and prayers,” Evardone added.
Degamo was shot to death by armed suspects inside his governor’s residence in Pamplona town on March 5. Eight others were also killed in the said incident.
Six of the suspects have already been arrested.
