ORMOC CITY-The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Leyte 4th District Engineering Office (DEO) hosted the Seminar/Training on Batas Pambansa Bilang 344 (Accessibility Law) held on May 20-21, 2024 at the Sabin Resort Hotel.
It was attended by project engineers, section chiefs and other technical staff from the Leyte 4th DEO, as well as representatives from various contractors and local government units (LGUs) including Palompon, Matag-ob, Merida, Kananga, Albuera, and Ormoc.
Two esteemed resource speakers led the sessions. Dr. Arturo M. Zafra, Jr. delivered in-depth discussion on Batas Pambansa Bilang 344 (BP 344) and its implementing rules and regulations. His presentation covered the technical components of BP 344 and the penal provision of Presidential Decree 1096, the United Nations framework on persons with disability (PWDs), and salient features on mandates affecting PWDs.
Engr. Emma A. Banatao, DPWH Alternate Representative to the National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA), provided valuable insights on disability concerns, including effective strategies for assisting visually impaired individuals or PWDs. She also conducted a comprehensive session on compliance audits, demonstrating how to perform accessibility audits and ensuring adherence to BP 344. (PR)
