In Northern Samar
ORMOC CITY– A losing candidate of the just concluded barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections in Laoang, Northern Samar put himself in a fire that resulted in his death.
Laoang Fire Marshall SFO2 Carlos Dulay identified the victim as Nonilon Giray, 72, who unsuccessfully lost on his reelection bid as councilor of Barangay Marubay off Batag Island in Laoang.
Giray put himself on fire inside the house where he served as a caretaker at 7:50 pm on Thursday (Nov.2).
The charred body of the victim was found at the sala of the house which was gutted down due to the incident.
It was learned that Giray was seeking for his second term as a village councilor.
