TACLOBAN CITY – The opening of sea travel from Maasin City to Surigao City and Cebu City by the Kho Shipping Lines will largely benefit his city.
Thus said Maasin City Mayor Naccional Mercado with the shipping line company starting its maiden voyage to the Southern Leyte provincial capital on November 18.
“Hopefully, we can sustain this. Economically, this will help the city’s tourism program, (and) transport of agricultural goods and products including cargo trucks which will have lesser travel time from Mindanao to Maasin” Mercado said.
The ship can carry 650 passengers, 22 ten-wheeler trucks and four SUVs will have a three times a week trip or every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday with an estimate travel time of five to six hours travel from the city to Surigao and Cebu.
The vessel amenities include VIP room accommodations, spacious lounge, a restaurant, a prayer room, toilets, and KTV bar, among others.
Mercado added that he hope that the three-times-a-week trip will become daily to accommodate more passengers and cargo as well.
And in anticipation of high demand, the Kho Shipping Lines has already reserved another vessel that will serve similar route. (ROEL T. AMAZONA)
