ORMOC CITY– A government worker was killed in a buy-bust operation in Calbiga, Samar.
Killed was Jovito Hernandez, a job order worker at the municipal government, during the sting operation on January 15 in Barangay 3, Poblacion at about 10:30 pm, the local police said.

Recovered from the possession of the suspect was one sachet containing a white crystalline substance suspected to be shabu procured by an operative in the amount of P3,000.

But after the suspect received the marked money, and the poseur buyer signaled the completion of the transaction, the suspect sensed that he was transacting with a police officer, drew his firearm, and shot the operatives.

Fortunately, other lawmen who acted as security during the operation returned fire and hit the suspect in his body resulting in his death.

After the gunfight, operatives recovered one large pack containing a white crystalline substance wrapped in transparent plastic suspected to be shabu and one transparent container containing the five sachets of suspected shabu.

Also recovered were one caliber .45 pistol and one magazine containing seven live ammunition. (ROBERT DEJON)
