ORMOC CITY– A member of a notorious criminal group operating in Samar was killed during a gunfight with police while they were serving a warrant of arrest on August 11 in Purok-2, Barangay Victory, Calbayog City.

The police identified the suspect as a 50-year-old man known by the alias “Danny,” who lived with his common-law wife in Brgy. Victory.

Danny was a member of the Managaysay Criminal Group and was listed as a Priority Provincial Area of Concern (PPAG).

According to the police, officers from the Calbayog City Police Station, along with the Provincial Intelligence Team from Samar Provincial Police Office, RIU8, PNP IG ISOD, 123rd Special Action Company (123SAC), 12th Special Action Battalion (12SAB), Special Action Force (SAF), and the Regional Intelligence Division of PRO8, conducted a manhunt operation against Danny at around 2:38 pm.

The operation resulted in an armed confrontation.

An investigation revealed that Danny had a warrant of arrest for multiple counts of murder.
During the operation, Danny sensed the presence of the police and attempted to evade arrest, firing his firearm at the officers. In response, the officers returned fire.

Danny sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to the Calbayog District Hospital for immediate medical attention but was pronounced dead by the attending physician.
The Calbayog City Satellite Forensic Unit (CCFU) processed the crime scene and recovered a .45 caliber pistol with an inserted magazine loaded with four live rounds, as well as four spent cartridge cases.

The SOCO (scene of the crime operation) team, along with the operating officers, conducted a body search on the suspect at the hospital in the presence of legally required witnesses.

They recovered P4, 500 in cash, a gold-plated wristwatch, a silver ring, and seven amulets.
The SOCO team also performed paraffin tests on the suspect’s hands.
