Amid allegation of ex-Pres. Duterte
TACLOBAN CITY– The President is no drug addict.
Thus said City Mayor Alfred Romualdez, a cousin of Mr. Marcos who was openly accused by his immediate predecessor, Rodrigo Duterte, to be using the illegal drug cocaine.
In a radio interview here on Thursday, Mayor Romualdez said that he has no personal knowledge that Pres. Marcos has ever used cocaine or any illegal substance for that matter.
According to the city mayor, this issue only came out when he ran presidency.
“I have known the President since we were young although he is older than me though I am bigger and taller,” Romualdez said during his K-5 News FM, a local radio here, interview.
“You know, he was once a governor, a congressman, and a senator and this issue never came out, only when he ran for the President,” Romualdez, whose father Alfredo is the younger brother of Imelda, the mother of the President.
“When Gloria (Macapagal Arroyo) ran for President, she was accused as the daughter of a corrupt (president, Diosdado Macapagal). When Noynoy (Benigno Aguino), son of President Corazon Aquino also ran for president, he was called all sorts of names like abnoy and now when Bongbong ran for president, he was accused as a drug addict,” the city mayor said.
Adding: “Ano kaya kung tumakbo si Sara? Anak ng presidente na medyo may tupak? Huwag dapat ganun,” Romualdez added.
He was referring to Vice President Sara Duterte who is presumed to be the leading candidate for president for the 2028 presidential elections.
Her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte, speaking during a rally in Davao City, accused Mr. Marcos to be using cocaine.
The President, in turn, claimed that the allegation against him could be due to the fentanyl that the former head of state is using due to the spinal injury he suffered from motorcycle accidents.
Fentanyl is considered to be the strongest painkiller that could be addictive.
