CATARMAN, Northern Samar – The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) in Northern Samar conducted a “Kadiwa sa NIA” event on August 15, offering rice at P29 per kilo to priority buyers at the NIA grounds, located within the capitol compound in Catarman.
NIA Division Manager Georden Lemsic stated that the rice sold at the event was contributed by irrigators associations in the province.
Each priority buyer was allowed to purchase a maximum of 3 kilos on a first-come, first-served basis. Tricycle and pedicab drivers, solo parents, and senior citizens were given priority in purchasing the rice.
In addition to rice, the event also featured farm products such as vegetables, fish, local delicacies, and other native goods, all sold at lower and more affordable prices.
Jeff Marino, the designated information officer, explained that the event was an initiative of the Irrigators Association of Northern Samar, which aimed to share their farm products as a gesture of gratitude for the blessings they have received.
