TACLOBAN CITY – To protect the bridge from potential dangers and subsequent deterioration, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Leyte 2nd District Engineering Office (L2DEO) has completed the re-blocking and retrofitting of the Lemon Bridge in Barangay San Joaquin, Capoocan, Leyte, along the Palo-Carigara-Ormoc road portion.

District Engineer Leo Edward Oppura stated that aside from bridge retrofitting, the project also involved 41.60 square meters of Portland Cement Concrete Pavement (PCCP) re-blocking for intermittently damaged pavements on its approaches.

An asphalt overlay was laid to provide a smoother travel experience, along with yellow and white reflectorized thermoplastic pavement markings to improve travel safety and road visibility.

Oppura further emphasized that the retrofitting project will ensure the safe usability of the Lemon Bridge for the traveling public, bring the structure up to standards, protect it from potential dangers, and increase its durability, longevity, and sturdiness.

Under the Bridge Program – Retrofitting and Strengthening of Permanent Bridges program of the DPWH General Appropriations Act of 2024, the project was allotted an amount of P4.88 million.

The work was undertaken by Ztatik Mktg & Engineering Services and completed on April 20, 2024.

Lemon Bridge measures 44.20 linear meters in length and is classified among the permanent bridges under the DPWH list of national bridges.
