TACLOBAN CITY– A man who was visiting his son jailed at the Ormoc City Jail is now behind bars himself.
This after he tried to sneak alleged shabu snuffed inside an uncooked banana on Sunday (Dec.31) at about 11 am, a report from the regional headquarters of the Philippine National Police (PNP) based in Palo, Leyte.
Arrested was Aurelio Basete, 62, and a resident of Barangay District 29, Ormoc City, whose stunt was discovered by jail guards during the routine inspection of things being brought by the visitors.
Basete was supposed to visit his jailed son, who was not identified in the report,carrying with him some foods and the bananas, and where one of them he placed the prohibited drug packed in a sachet.
Based on the inventory, the prohibited drug weighs 1 gram with a commercial value of P6,800.
The suspect is now detained at the said jail facility and was charged for illegal possession of illegal drugs under RA 9165, otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.
The offense carries with a 20-years up to life imprisonment and a penalty of up to P500,000.
