TACLOBAN CITY – A workshop aimed at accelerating entrepreneurship through digitalization and mentorship was held from August 12 to 15 at the regional office of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA).

The “Grow Digital’ workshop was initiated by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) Tacloban-Leyte, in collaboration with The Asia Foundation, NEDA, the Department of Trade and Industry, and the Department of Science and Technology.

The workshop is part of the Go Digital ASEAN Program, endorsed by the ASEAN Coordinating Committee on Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), and implemented by The Asia Foundation with funding from Google.org.

The workshop consisted of four sessions, attended by young entrepreneurs, women in business, entrepreneurs in the tourism sector, and participants from various sectors.
Topics covered during the workshop included business strategies, social media, digital and automation tools, and business development.

Participants included members of the Eastern Visayas Tourism Association, the Association of Leyte Tour Operators, representatives from the academic sector, transport groups, and documentation businesses.

“PCCI Tacloban-Leyte recognizes the great potential of tourism as a driver of the local economy,” said Mitiz Sabando, PCCI Tacloban-Leyte executive director.

“We are grateful to The Asia Foundation team for partnering with us in holding these workshops in Leyte to support our entrepreneurs in the tourism sector,” she added.

Grow Digital mentor Abad Enriquez emphasized the importance of digitalization in business, particularly in the tourism sector.

According to Enriquez, digitalization has been instrumental in helping tourism businesses attract customers and track their sales.
