ALBUERA, Leyte– Senator Imee Marcos reiterated her opposition not to allow any refugees from Afghanistan to enter the country.
Marcos, in her visit to this town on June 23, said that she find it ‘fearful’ to allow these Afghan refugees enter the country through the encouragement of the United States government.
“Nahadlok ako medyo natatakot kami,” she said, adding that these Afghans have claimed that they are not refugees but former employees of the US during their tenure in Afghanistan.
She said that this is the reason why Vice President Sara Duterte was also irked about this plan.
Sen. Marcos also said that instead of bringing them to the country, why not send these refugees to the Middle East when the US has bigger military bases in the region like in Oman and Qatar where these people’s documents had been processed and also in Virginia USA.
During her visit to this town, Sen. Marcos also distributed financial support to 10 local residents for their livelihood program at P5,000 each.
She also led in the distribution of the assistance of individuals in crisis situations (AICS) to 1,000 beneficiaries of the town receiving P3,000 in cash.
Sen. Marcos said that she is also extending P5 million pesos to the municipality of Albuera to be used by the rice farmers of the town.
