For the past five years

TACLOBAN CITY-At least 458 public school buildings were constructed across in Eastern Samar from 2016-2020, a top official of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in the province said Tuesday(September 21).
“Once the face-to-face class will be allowed, these school building projects will provide better learning ambiance to our students and teachers because of the comfortable and spacious classrooms,” Engr. Ma. Margarita Junia, head of DPWH-Eastern Samar, said in a statement.
Junia assured that the school building projects, with a total cost of P2.5 billion, “were constructed in accordance with the plans and standards specifications set by the department.”
“As of now, all school building projects implemented by the district office are all completed and some were already enjoyed by the students and teachers, especially those buildings constructed before the pandemic,” she said.
In 2016, 167 school buildings were completed by DPWH-Eastern Samar worth P759.28 million, while 168 school buildings were finished in 2017, amounting to P1.025 billion.
In 2018, another 106 school buildings worth P711.26 million were constructed, while 12 school buildings were completed in 2019 worth P59.36 million.
Amidst the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, DPWH-Eastern Samar completed five school buildings worth P23.20 million.
No school building project has been implemented by the district office for the year 2021, according to DPWH in the province.
