ORMOC CITY-A septuagenarian widow who bought rice for lunch from the other side of the road was killed after she was bumped by a van at about 11:45 am on Saturday (June 22) along a national road in Barangay Gaas, Baybay City.
Police identified the victim as alias “Con”, 76, a widow, and a resident of said village.
The vehicle involved was a Hi-Ace commuter can bearing plate number HVN-878, registered to alias “Eve” of Tacloban City, and driven by alias “Ed”, 59, married, self-employed, and a resident of Sta. Rita, Samar.
The van has a passenger alias “Maria” 36, a resident of Sta. Rita.
Initial investigation conducted by responding police disclosed that the vehicle was traveling from Baybay City, going to Tacloban City, and upon reaching the place of occurrence, the victim suddenly crossed the highway and was accidentally hit by the said vehicle.
As a result, the victim sustained serious injuries and with a severely broken lower right leg. She was brought to Immaculate Conception Hospital (ICH) in Baybay but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
The driver and passenger of the van were unharmed and were brought to Baybay City police station along with their vehicle for documentation and proper disposition.
